Our chapter president, Jenny Badillo, is a non-traditional student who enrolled into LaGuardia Community College in the spring 2008 after a long 7 years and the birth of her daughter. However, she returned to school focused and dedicated to her mission. Originally, Jenny was a pre-clinical nursing student, competing for a competitive spot in the nursing program, but, shortly after joining Phi Theta Kappa, she dropped her nursing candidacy and decided to change her major to Liberal Arts Math and Science. As a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Jenny explains that she began working in partnership with a wide range of diverse students who exposed her to many other subjects. She quoted, “The members of PTK gave me the chance to view so many other options other than nursing”. With the opportunity to take various classes, she discovered that she wanted to pursue a career in science education. Her long term goals are to finish her undergrad and graduate degree and begin teaching in inner city schools. While Jenny isn’t studying, volunteering, or working on her officer duties, she enjoys relaxing and spending time with her daughter Kaylee. Top

Starting with a shy eye towards LaGuardia, Nihal Hashem has grown from her various participations in many student activities. Engaging in the national model United Nations conference, then being granted the opportunity to go to Vassar’s exploring transfer program, Nihal has definitely become a different person with many motivations. Adding to her summer happiness she became Phi Theta Kappa’s Vice President for recruitment and retentions with the goal to make this year’s membership rate growly vastly. A strong believer of Marxism, Nihal believes that a united society can create change in this world. Her long term goals include becoming a Law graduate, going to her father’s country Egypt to help the poor, and visiting her mother’s homeland Italy. Nihal hopes that throughout her term as a Phi Theta Kappa officer she implements change and has a great affect on the students at LaGuardia. Wishing everyone a successful academic year, she says always think beyond your horizon. Never be afraid to take risks, you may be surprised at the outcome! Top
Chapter secretary Jaida Triblet is a second-year English major at LaGuardia, who enjoys reading and writing on a regular basis. Like her fellow officers, she shares an excitement and passion for Phi Theta Kappa, and the work they do in and outside the College. Her long-term goals include pursuing novel writing, teaching, and a production of her own Broadway musical. Jaida is a firm believer in living each day to the fullest, a lover of the Latin phrase "carpe diem!" Or in English, seize the moment! Top

A prelaw student in his native Argentina, Luis switched gears to pursue photography at LaGuardia. As every Phi Theta Kappan, he claims that getting involved with the chapter was a turning point in his college experience. In the future, Luis hopes to expand his horizon by complementing his photographic skills with knowledge in the history of the arts. A fan of “Club Atlético River Plate”, his chosen vehicle is the bike.Top

Emmanuel enrolled in LaGuardia after taking a three year hiatus from school. Unsure of what path to create for his life, he took a diverse range of courses until he discovered his passion for English Literature. In order to hone his skills as a writer, he took on the challenge of being the editor for the PTK blog. He believes his PTK experience will help him not only improve his writing, but become a better citizen by giving back to the community. Top

Hello, I’m Fannie Sanchez of Alpha Theta Phi’s Liaison to the Student Advisory Council. I’m here to tell you that as a Phi Theta Kappa member at La Guardia Community College my education and leadership skills are continuously flourishing. I will try to make a long story short. To begin with I was a high school dropout. I didn’t have any ambition to continue my education and when I did think about going back, it was just to have a trade and make it with something mediocre. Well all that changed at the age of 24 when I decided...Click HERE for full bio.
